Shafi Style

Díla focus : design thinking, market relevance, brand development

Shafi Style is in the early stages of becoming an independent womenswear label by Shafigheh, a former refugee building her life in Europe. As a teenager Shafi trained and worked as a tailor in Iran, always dreaming of moving into the more creative aspects of fashion such as designing collections, producing shows, and building a client base. In Athens she became a costume assistant for Apple TV, received Zoom tutorials from London College of Fashion tutor Olivia Hegarty, and received a studio residency at Work in Progress Studios.

Shafi first received Díla’s support in 2019 when she designed her debut collection, presenting a fashion show to an intimate audience at Action for Women and more formally at Athens Fashion Film Festival. An image series to represent the collection was generously created by emerging Greek fashion photographer Maria Koutroumpi starring Athens-born model of Kenyan-Ugandan heritage Elena Casablanca. This photography accompanied a feature published in Vogue Greece about Shafi and her cross-cultural design work.

Shafi now has a steady stream of production clients and increasingly receives design commissions. She is highly skilled in tailoring and aims to expand her experience in design conceptualisation and development with a view to applying her existing craft to a contemporary commercial context. Shafi is currently designing her second collection while also working on her digital skillset, illustration abilities, understanding of aesthetic codes, and knowledge of the fashion industry. She teaches workshops in tailoring and embroidery through Díla and beyond.
